An Adventurous Salute to
Independence
Press Releases and Press
reports
The FREEDOM VOYAGE was flagged off on the 31st of October, 1997 by the
Secretary, Tourism of the Government of India, Sh. Madan Bezbarua, IAS.
The actual journey began on the 6th of November.
(12th December). After repairs, Rajeev restarted the journey. But
apparently he has had a financial crunch, and has slowed down the
pace of his journey in order to get financial support on the way. He
has driven through Germany and France and is crossing the English
Channel today.

The Freedom
Voyage is a solo round-the-world motorcycle expedition to commemorate
50 years of India'’s independence.
The Freedom Voyage was originally planned to be an attempt to
establish a new world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world
by motorcycle. The route covers 23 countries across 5 continents
and was approved by Guinness
Publishing (a branch of Guinness Breweries) for the record attempt.
Unfortunately, due to various reasons, the start of the journey has been
delayed into the month of November, when daylight hours in most parts of
the world are too brief to allow for the travelling time required.
The journey is being undertaken on an Enfield 500 cc motorcycle and is
planned to be completed in under 45 days.
The expedition is being undertaken by RAJEEV SABHLOK, a keen adventure sportsman. He is a
member of the National Adventure Foundation, former NCC cadet, and has
traveled extensively on motorcycle in India. He is a keen parachuter
and skydiver as well as a karate instructor, being a black belt
in Shotokan
karate. |
